Subject Description

This subject examines the environmental, political, social, and policy dimensions of climate change adaptation, focusing on risks to human well-being and how these can be managed. Using examples from Australia and the Asia-Pacific, particularly small islands, it highlights how adaptation is shaped by existing interests and diverse contexts. The course explores complexities like uncertainty, power, and the relationship between adaptation and development. It emphasizes that adaptation both poses and addresses risks, requiring critical, iterative decision-making. Topics include strategies for change at global, regional, local, and individual levels, with attention to their interrelations.
