This subject explores the digital transformation of healthcare, focusing on the generation, sharing, and management of health data within complex networks. Despite advancements since the mid-20th century, healthcare lags behind other sectors in leveraging digital technologies. The subject addresses the socio-economic and patient safety drivers for digital health, aiming to make healthcare more accessible and reduce errors. It provides an overview of health and disease, biomedical data, and how digital tools are shaping healthcare. Students will examine digital health technologies from ethical, historical, technological, and psycho-social perspectives, considering both their positive and negative impacts.
