Subject Description
This subject explores pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response through a multidisciplinary lens, using case studies like SARS, MERS, Zika, Rabies, Swine and Avian Influenza, Ebola, HIV/AIDS, and COVID-19. Students will examine pandemics as intersections of global systems, including human and animal health, political, economic, cultural, and environmental factors. Equity and inclusion are central themes, addressing how pandemics affect varied populations.
Key topics include: multi-sectoral preparedness, One Health, climate change, outbreak risk assessment, health system resilience, community engagement, communication, non-pharmaceutical interventions, technological advancements post-COVID, and the politics and economics of pandemics.
